The Department of Architecture conducts its research activities through an interdisciplinary approach that brings together design, practice and social contribution. The national and international research projects developed within the Department focus on current research areas such as post-disaster recovery processes, inclusive design, ‘design-and-build’ pedagogy, sustainability and innovative learning methods. This research environment is supported by the biennial international conference series ‘Architectural Studies: Foundations • Positions • Words’ (https://foundationspositionswords.com/), which brings together researchers, designers and academics from different countries to discuss current architectural issues, thereby fostering interdisciplinary knowledge sharing. The Department’s research activities aim to contribute to the field of architecture through academic publications, practice-based projects, workshops and scientific events.
Selected examples of research projects, design-and-build initiatives and international scientific events carried out within our Department are presented below.
